Shifting Baselines refers to a lowering of standards,
not just in the oceans but everywhere around us.

"We're forgetting how nature used to look".

It's an idea that's so important we've built an entire video contest around it.

The Shifting Baselines Flix Contest is a forum for amateur and up-and-coming filmmakers to have their voices heard... and win big prizes. The SB FLIX CONTEST ended March 1st, 2007, we got a total of over 70 entries. Contestants were asked to submit creative, funny, and otherwise crazy cool videos about the ocean or the environment/Shifting Baselines. We accepted surf videos, reality videos, or stupid and silly videos that contestants filmed in their backyard. If you liked it, we would take it. All videos had to be one minute or shorter.

The environmental and scientific world is in dire need of new communicators and new mediums for messaging. At Shifting Baselines, we have turned to the "ipod generation" for their youtube-style takes on the environment and our oceans.
